Alongside this I have always found the process of creating and making to be calming and relaxing whilst also very stimulating. Over the years this has taken in a wide avenue of areas including dressmaking, crochet, knitting, and nail art pictures.
About 12 years ago, in order to fulfil a family Christmas tradition of handcrafted presents, I was introduced to jewellery making and made square weave bracelets. Some months later I went to a bead fair and surrounded by so many beautiful elements my jewellery journey had begun!
Over time my fascination with Geology and rock formations has drawn me into exploring the myriad possibilities offered by gemstones
Each one is a gift from the Earth and has its own story. With these I have gravitated to simpler, more sophisticated styles as the gemstone is central and leads to the design. I find that the aesthetics involved in the choice of gemstones and other elements is fascinating. The patterns created bring both my ordered, scientific and sometimes chaotic creative sides into collaboration.
The sensation of calm which comes from holding a completed design brings a huge sense of achievement.
I love the feel of the gemstones as I work with them or wear them. They respond to touch by starting off cold to the touch and then take on the warmth of the body!
There is an immense satisfaction which comes from realising someone else’s dream whether in special commissions or in classes. These have included the drop-dead gorgeous Swarovski Crystal Elements on a black dress, elegant or fun wedding jewellery for the bridal party or bracelets made at many birthday parties or drop-in sessions.
